We recently received our copy of the Super Power Baby Project for our rooms. It's a celebration of a different way of looking at children with disabilities.
When Rachel Callander's baby was born with a chromosomal syndrome she understood first hand the challenge, grief and difficulty that comes with having a child with a serious disability. But as a mother Rachel found so much more than that. Her daughter was unique and truly exceptional, bringing love and laugher and much to teach about life.
Rachel was dismayed that the official language around her daughter's disability did not recognise any of this.
As a photographer Rachel started a project to show another side of children with genetic disabilities, beyond the deficit language often used to describe disability.
